Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has launched an attack against limited overs captain Babar Azam, saying he is the “only superstar who is a coward”.

Azam has not been in the best of form as of late and recently scored 64 runs at an average of 16 in Pakistan’s two-Test series against Bangladesh, which they lost 2-0.

The 29-year-old showed much more encouraging signs in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a domestic 50-over tournament played in Faisalabad.

In four games for the Stallions, the Lahore native amassed 230 runs, which included a century and a fifty, at an average of 76.66.

Nonetheless, Basit still doesn’t like what he has been seeing from Azam over the past few months.

“Babar Azam is the only superstar who is a coward,” he was quoted as saying by Khel Shel on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Azam and the rest of the Pakistan team will be back in action next week when they face England in a three-Test series from October 7 to 28 in Multan and Rawalpindi.

Pakistan Squad for 1st Test against England: Shan Masood (captain), Saud Shakeel (vice-captain), Aamer Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Mir Hamza, Muhammad Hurraira, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Naseem Shah, Noman Ali, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicketkeeper), Shaheen Shah Afridi.
