Former Pakistan pace bowler Tanvir Ahmed believes “one good innings” could be the spark star batsman Babar Azam needs to get back to his best.
Azam has endured a turbulent time with his form over the past few months, whereby he hasn’t been able to make big scores regularly.
This has been a problem for the men in green as the 29-year-old is one of their frontline batsmen.
Recently, Azam featured in the two-Test series against Bangladesh and only scored 64 runs at an average of 16.
Acknowledging that this is a big problem, Tanvir noted it is imperative that the Lahore native do whatever it takes to rediscover his form.
“I still believe that Babar Azam is that sort of the player who will [rise] again as his batting is good. One good innings will definitely boost the confidence of Babar Azam,” he said on his YouTube channel as quoted by Samaa TV.
Azam’s poor batting was one of many reasons why Pakistan suffered a shock 2-0 loss in their series against Bangladesh.
He is now playing for the Stallions in the Champions One-Day Cup, which is a domestic 50-over tournament going on in Faisalabad.
In four matches, he has made 230 runs, which included a century and a fifty, at an average of 76.66.
Azam and the rest of the Pakistan team will be back in action when they take on England in a three-Test series from October 7 to 28 in Multan and Rawalpindi.
