Former Pakistan captain Aamer Sohail is baffled by the inconsistent opportunities Abrar Ahmed has gotten, stating that the mystery spinner has simply “been collecting a lot of air miles”.
Abrar began his Test career with a bang and took plenty of wickets, which made him one of the new players to watch out for.
However, the men in green have begun using him sporadically as of late, which was evident during the two-Test series against Bangladesh, where he only played in the second Test.
Abrar took one wicket in that match at an average of 123 as Pakistan went on to lose the series 2-0.
Sohail expressed his frustration at the fact that the 26-year-old was not given a proper chance to prove himself after showing so much potential.
“Abrar started his career in great fashion, collected a lot of wickets. After that, he has been collecting a lot of air miles,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Abrar is now representing the Stallions in the Champions One-Day Cup, which is a domestic 50-over competition taking place in Faisalabad.
In the four matches he has played, the Karachi native has claimed five wickets at an average of 33.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-Test series against England, which is set to be held from October 7 to 28.
