Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has expressed his desire to keep playing international cricket, even though he has lost his place in the playing XI.

Sarfaraz had a short stint as Pakistan’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman just over a year ago, but Mohammad Rizwan has since replaced him.

The 37-year-old still continues to be picked in the Test squad as a back-up wicketkeeper, but even though he watches on from the sidelines, he is still confident he has what it takes to excel at the highest level.

Sarfaraz added that he knows he can continue playing international cricket right now and thus has no plans to retire.

“I will be available for the Pakistan team. When I will have domestic duties, I will fulfil them. Whenever I am selected, I will be available. With time, everything will fall into place. Right now, I feel I can still play. I will continue to play as long as I can,” he was quoted as saying by A Sports.

Sarfaraz was part of Pakistan’s team for the recent two-Test series against Bangladesh, which the men in green lost 2-0.

Currently, he is representing the Dolphins as a player-mentor in the Champions One-Day Cup, which is a domestic 50-over competition being held in Faisalabad.

In the one match he has played, Sarfaraz scored five runs.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-match Test series against England, which is set to take place from October 7 to 28.
