Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood believes Mohammad Ali is the perfect fast bowler to support Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah as he “hits the deck hard, can move the ball in the air with the seam, and has that extra pace”.
Ali has been a strong performer in domestic cricket for quite some time and is now getting rewarded for his hard work.
In the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, the 31-year-old from Sialkot took two wickets at an average of 72.50.
“We considered who could best support Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah, who will hopefully take the new ball. We believe Mohammad Ali is well-suited for this role. He hits the deck hard, can move the ball in the air with the seam, and has that extra pace,” Masood was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Masood failed to have a major impact with the bat in the Test series as he scored 105 runs, which included a top score of 57, at an average of 26.25.
Pakistan ended up losing the series 2-0 despite playing both matches on home soil in Rawalpindi.
Next up for the men in green will be a three-match Test series against England, which will be held from October 7 to 28.
