Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has told limited overs captain Babar Azam that he “is not the No. 1 batter in ODIs”.

Azam is currently ranked first on the ODI batsmen rankings, but Basit noted that the 29-year-old deserves to “go down” since he has not been performing well.

It should be noted that Azam’s last ODI century came against Nepal in the 2023 Asia Cup, where he smashed an extraordinary 151.

Having not been able to cross the triple-figure mark since August last year, Basit feels that there are other batsmen who are better in ODIs than Azam right now.

“His ranking should go down in the ODIs as well. He is not the No.1 batter in ODIs,” he said on his YouTube channel as quoted by NDTV.

Azam recently played in Pakistan’s two-match Test series against Bangladesh and mustered 64 runs at an average of 16.

The men in green lost that series 2-0 and will now take on England in a three-Test series from October 7 to 28.
