Basit Ali: “If I was in the dressing room, I would have told Abdullah Shafique to pack his bags and leave”

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali said he “would have told Abdullah Shafique to pack his bags and leave” following his poor performance in the two-Test series against Bangladesh.
Shafique had enjoyed an outstanding run of form in the longest format coming into the series, but couldn’t maintain it as he was restricted to just 42 runs at an average of 10.50.
Basit was particularly annoyed about the 24-year-old’s shot selection in the second innings of the first Test when he and Mohammad Rizwan were working hard to rebuild for Pakistan.
“If I was in the dressing room, I would have told Abdullah Shafique to pack his bags and leave,” he said on his YouTube channel as quoted by NDTV.
Shafique’s subpar batting was one of many reasons why Pakistan ended up losing the series 2-0.
The men in green’s next assignment will be a three-match Test series against England, which will take place from October 7 to 28.
