Pakistan red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie has confirmed that left-arm pace bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi “will play a significant role in the next 6-7 months”.
The men in green have a crowded schedule ahead of them, with their next assignment being a three-match Test series against England at home in October.
Gillespie wants Afridi to rediscover his form before then, especially as he wasn’t able to have much of an impact in the two-Test series against Bangladesh, which Pakistan lost 2-0.
In that series, the 24-year-old only featured in the first Test and took two wickets at an average of 48.
Knowing what Afridi is capable of doing, Gillespie will no doubt expect more from him in the team’s upcoming series.
