India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin applauded Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan for his gritty attitude during the recent two-Test series against Bangladesh.

Rizwan often found himself batting when the men in green were in a precarious position, meaning there was immensely more pressure on him to perform well.

The 32-year-old from Peshawar repeatedly answered that call and ended up scoring 294 runs, which included a career-best 171 not out, at an average of 98.

Ashwin was mightily impressed with the way Rizwan continued to fight, even when things looked bleak for Pakistan.

“In fact, in the end, Rizwan was staging a fight,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Even though Rizwan put on a show with the bat, it wasn’t to stop Bangladesh from whitewashing Pakistan 2-0.
