Pakistan pace leader Shaheen Shah Afridi firmly believes that opening batsman Saim Ayub has “the ability and hunger” to become a superstar.
Ayub has shown immense potential at the domestic level, but has failed to replicate it in international cricket.
So far, the 22-year-old from Karachi has made 168 runs in three Test matches, which includes two fifties, at an average of 28.
As for his T20I career, he has amassed 309 runs in 23 matches at an average of 14.71 and a strike-rate of 122.13.
Even though Ayub has fallen short of expectations while playing for Pakistan, Afridi insisted that he has what it takes to be the next big thing.
“He has the ability and hunger to do it for Pakistan,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion.
Afridi and Ayub both featured in Pakistan’s two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which the men in green lost 2-0.
Afridi only played one Test and took two wickets at an average of 48, while Ayub scored 135 runs in two matches, which included two half-centuries, at an average of 33.75.
