Legendary Pakistan spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to utilise the services of Saqlain Mushtaq, Saeed Ajmal or Abdul Rehman.

He noted that the trio are all capable of being spin consultants and should be used to develop players “at the grassroots level”.

His comments come after the men in green have had a tough time finding an effective spinner as of late, with Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz both having failed to take wickets regularly.

Imad Wasim came out of retirement to feature in the 2024 T20 World Cup, but took all three of his wickets in one match.

Since it remains to be seen if Imad will continue playing international cricket, Mushtaq stressed the importance of grooming young spinners and ensuring they are ready to play for Pakistan when the time comes.

“Pakistan has good spinners and should have a spin consultant. Taking advantage of experts like Saqlain Mushtaq, Abdul Rehman, and Saeed Ajmal at the grassroots level can be beneficial,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

The Pakistan team are currently involved in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh and trail 1-0 after losing the first Test by 10 wickets.

The second Test will get underway on August 30 in Rawalpindi.
