Pakistan rising star Rohail Nazir said veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed is working with promising youngster Haseebullah Khan right now.
Haseebullah has been earmarked as a potential future star and has shown plenty of promise in domestic cricket, where he averages 38.45 in first-class cricket, 51.58 in List A cricket and 20.91 in T20s.
Recently, the 21-year-old represented Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in the President’s Cup Grade-I (1-Day) tournament and finished as the fourth-highest run-scorer with 261 runs in five matches, which included a century and two fifties, at an average of 87.
The Pishin native then played for Pakistan A and had a number of strong performances, including a knock of 51 in a four-day game against the Bangladesh High Performance XI and 49 not out in a T20 against the Australian Capital Territory.
Nazir noted that it is great to see Sarfaraz dedicating his time to helping young players become better and acknowledged that he himself learned a lot from the former captain.
“I have worked with Sarfaraz bhai on [the] England tour like he is working with Haseebullah right now,” he told PakPassion.
Neither Nazir nor Haseebullah featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where the men in green failed to make it out of the group stage.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which will take place in Rawalpindi and Karachi from August 21 to September 3.
