Former Pakistan opening batsman Salman Butt has lashed out at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for picking left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir and spinner Imad Wasim in the national team after they “humiliated” limited overs captain Babar Azam on TV.

Salman admitted he is bamboozled by the PCB’s recent decisions and pointed out that it could lead to issues arising within the team in the future.

The 39-year-old also took aim at the fact that the board brought Azam back as captain just months after he resigned from the leadership role in all three formats.

“You brought in two guys who humiliated him on TV (Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim). Then you changed the captain and brought him back after two series. You are creating corners within the team yourself,” he told Cricket Pakistan.

Azam recently featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he accumulated 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.

As for Amir, he took seven wickets in four games at an average of 10.28 and an economy rate of 4.50.

Imad, meanwhile, finished with three wickets in three matches at an average of 14.66 and an economy rate of four.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which will take place in Rawalpindi and Karachi from August 21 to September 3.
