Pakistan batsman Zain Abbas admitted to being amazed by fast bowler Mohammad Asif since he “used to make great players dance to his tune”.
Asif was renowned for his ability to swing the ball both ways and hit good areas consistently, which brought him a lot of success.
However, his career came to a screeching halt in 2010 when he was indicted in a spot-fixing scandal that led to him being banned for five years.
While the 41-year-old returned to domestic cricket, he never managed to make an international comeback.
Nonetheless, Abbas was left in awe when he faced Asif as the Sheikhupura native got the best of him.
“I faced Mohammad Asif once, during the last season he played for WAPDA (Water and Power Development Authority), I think it was in 2016-17. It was in 2016-17, it was with the Duke ball and we were playing in Hyderabad. He got me out as well. I only got to play 10-12 balls against him. There is not any comparison between him and us. He used to make great players dance to his tune, what are we against him,” he told PakPassion.
The Pakistan team recently featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the group stage.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which will be played in Rawalpindi and Karachi from August 21 to September 3.
