Legendary Pakistan batsman Younis Khan has thrown his support behind iconic fast bowler Waqar Younis, saying he “has the opportunity to solve the [cricketing] issues” in the country.
The 46-year-old’s comments come after Waqar was appointed as the Adviser for Cricket Affairs to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Given that Waqar has served as Pakistan’s head coach and bowling coach in the past, Younis hopes the 52-year-old helps resolve some of the problems plaguing the country’s cricketing infrastructure and national team at the moment.
“I’ve played under Waqar Younis and I think it’s a good sign that he’s coming back to the cricket board. Waqar Younis has the opportunity to solve the [cricketing] issues,” he was quoted as saying by A Sports.
The Pakistan team recently featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were knocked out in the group stage.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a two-Test series against Bangladesh, which will be played in Rawalpindi and Karachi from August 21 to September 3.
