Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik believes big-hitting batsman Fakhar Zaman should be considered as limited overs captain as he plays a fearless brand of cricket.

His comments come after it remains unclear whether Babar Azam will continue on as white-ball skipper, especially after the 2024 T20 World Cup, where the men in green failed to make it past the group stage.

Even though other names like Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi have been floated around as potential successors, Malik has thrown his support behind Zaman.

“According to today’s fearless cricket, Fakhar Zaman should be considered for [the] white-ball captaincy because he has the sense and leadership capacity for it,” he told Cricket Pakistan.

Zaman was recently involved in the T20 World Cup, where he mustered 33 runs in four matches at an average of 8.25 and a strike-rate of 110.

Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India before fighting back to beat Canada and Ireland.

Despite triumphing in those two games, the men in green were unable to book their spot in the Super Eights.
