Younis Khan: “Babar Azam needed more support from the senior players around him”

Legendary Pakistan batsman Younis Khan blamed the senior players in the team for not giving limited overs captain Babar Azam enough support.
Azam’s future as skipper remains shrouded in mystery, especially after the men in green’s disastrous campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Younis pointed out that the veteran players in the side had a duty to assist the 29-year-old and offer guidance, but they failed to do that, which has led to the current predicament Azam finds himself in.
“Babar Azam needed more support from the senior players around him,” he was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In the T20 World Cup, Azam was Pakistan’s highest run-scorer with 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
The men in green started off with losses to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to defeat Canada and Ireland.
Despite ending the group stage with consecutive wins, it was not enough to take Pakistan through to the Super Eights.
