Gautam Gambhir: “I believe he will be in the top two or three players in all formats”

India head coach Gautam Gambhir believes Pakistan limited overs captain Babar Azam is good enough to be in the top two or three in all formats.
Azam is currently the top-ranked ODI batsman in the world, tied third in Tests and fourth in T20Is.
Given how good the 29-year-old is at scoring runs, Gambhir expects him to climb the rankings in Tests and T20Is, while retaining his position atop the ODI standings.
“I believe he will be in the top two or three players in all formats,” he told Star Sports as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam was recently in action in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he was Pakistan’s highest run-scorer with 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
The men in green began their campaign with back-to-back losses to the United States of America and India before defeating Canada and Ireland.
Even though they ended the group stage on a high, it wasn’t enough to get them into the Super Eights.
