Misbah-ul-Haq said Pakistan captain Babar Azam's performance needs to be evaluated

Misbah-ul-Haq: “As far as Babar’s performance is concerned, we need to see where he stands after four years. It’s not just the captain’s fault; the blame lies with all departments, including batting, bowling, and fielding”

Former Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq believes limited overs captain Babar Azam’s performance needs to be evaluated.

His comments come at a time when Azam’s future as captain remains unclear, especially after the men in green’s dismal campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were knocked out in the group stage.

However, Misbah pointed out that all the blame shouldn’t be placed on the 29-year-old as all the other players have a duty to perform well for their country.

“As far as Babar’s performance is concerned, we need to see where he stands after four years. It’s not just the captain’s fault; the blame lies with all departments, including batting, bowling, and fielding,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

In the T20 World Cup, Azam was Pakistan’s highest run-scorer with 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.

The men in green lost to the United States of America and India before fighting back to defeat Canada and Ireland.

Despite winning those two games, it was not enough for them to book their spot in the Super Eights.
