Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad has questioned why no one is holding Babar Azam accountable for not being able to win a single trophy in five years as captain.

Azam led the men in green in all three formats until he stepped down from the leadership role in November 2023.

However, he was reappointed as the country’s white-ball skipper in March 2024 and recently led Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were knocked out in the group stage.

Under the 29-year-old’s command, Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India before managing to beat Canada and Ireland.

Shehzad noted that everyone is quick to blame other players in the side for not pulling their weight, but develop a more hesitant attitude when it comes to Azam.

“Nobody makes Babar Azam accountable! He has been given five years to captain but failed to win a single trophy for Pakistan,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.

It should be noted that Azam was Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup with 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.

Pakistan Squad for 2024 T20 World Cup: Babar Azam (capt), Saim Ayub, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Fakhar Zaman, Azam Khan (wk), Usman Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir, Abbas Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed
