Legendary Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram has lavished praise on pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi, saying he “goes for wickets”.
Afridi has developed a reputation of being one of the best new ball bowlers in the world as he regularly strikes early.
Wasim noted that one of the things he loves about the 24-year-old is his ability to get batsmen out even though they know he will pitch the ball up.
“He’s a wicket-taking bowler. He goes for wickets. He attacks with the new ball in the T20 format. Everyone knows that he’ll pitch it up, but he still gets them out, and that’s what I love about him,” the Sultan of Swing was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Afridi was recently involved in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he took five wickets in four matches at an average of 21 and an economy rate of 6.56.
Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to defeat Canada and Ireland.
However, those two victories went in vain as the men in green were eliminated in the group stage of the tournament.
