Former Pakistan cricketer Atiq-uz-Zaman believes there has been no player as dangerous as middle order batsman Umar Akmal since he was dropped from the team.

Akmal was considered the next big thing in Pakistan cricket, but failed to live up to the hype due to inconsistent performances and disciplinary issues.

Due to this, the 34-year-old hasn’t played international cricket since October 2019, but has remained active on the domestic circuit.

Most recently, the Lahore native featured in the President’s Trophy Grade-I first-class tournament and scored 517 runs in seven matches for the Water And Power Development Authority (WAPDA), which included a century and three fifties, at an average of 39.76.

“Since he is out from the team, we don’t have any dangerous players like he was,” Atiq said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Pakistan team were recently involved in the 2024 T20 World Cup and lost to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to defeat Canada and Ireland.

Despite triumphing in their last two group stage matches, the men in green failed to advance to the Super Eights.
