Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad has accused limited overs captain Babar Azam of only picking his friends in the national team.
He noted that Azam doesn’t focus on performance, but has instead established a like and dislike culture where his friends get priority when it comes to selection.
In addition to this, even when those players picked aren’t performing, Shehzad pointed out that Azam will do anything to keep them in the squad.
“Aap apne dosto ke saath team bana rahe hain, dosto ko team ke andar rakh rahe hain (you are making a team with your friends, keeping your friends in the team),” he was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Azam recently captained Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup and scored 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
The men in green lost to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to defeat Canada and Ireland.
However, those two victories went in vain as the men in green were eliminated in the group stage of the tournament.
