Former Pakistan fast bowler Sarfraz Nawaz believes Mohammad Rizwan should be the first-choice wicketkeeper for the national team.

Rizwan has long been Pakistan’s go-to wicketkeeper-batsman, but lately, Azam Khan has been behind the stumps as well.

Usman Khan offers another option, but he hasn’t been wicketkeeping regularly.

Given Azam’s struggles to score runs and Usman’s inconsistency when it comes to being a wicketkeeper, Sarfraz pointed out that the best man for the job is Rizwan.

“You have three wicketkeepers: Usman can also do wicketkeeping, Azam is there, and you have Rizwan as well. You should have Rizwan do regular wicketkeeping; he should be the regular keeper. Besides this, you can add another batsman in the middle order,” he told Cricket Pakistan.

Rizwan, Usman and Azam all featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup, with Rizwan amassing 110 runs in four matches, which included a top score of 53 not out, at an average of 36.66 and a strike-rate of 90.90.

Usman amassed 20 runs in four games at an average of 6.66 and a strike-rate of 90.90, while Azam was dismissed for a golden duck in the only game he played, which was against the United States of America.

Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to beat Canada and Ireland.

However, their victories went in vain as they failed to make it out of the group stage and through to the Super Eights.
