Pakistan batsman Awais Zia believes opener Saim Ayub needs to play under pressure as it is the only way he will perform.

Ayub is one of the most talented youngsters in the country, but has not been able to replicate his domestic success at the international level.

So far, the 22-year-old from Karachi has scored 309 runs in 23 T20Is at an average of 14.71 and a strike-rate of 122.13.

Most recently, he was in action in the 2024 T20 World Cup, but only managed to muster 23 runs in two games at an aveerage of 11.50 and a strike-rate of 79.31.

“If Saim Ayub does not play under pressure, he will not perform. He should play under pressure,” Awais said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India in the T20 World Cup before fighting back to defeat Canada and Ireland.

Even though they won those two matches, it was not enough to see them through to the Super Eights.
