Iconic Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has urged fans not to use “inappropriate language” against limited overs captain Babar Azam on social media.

He noted that Azam is currently in a very difficult spot as he has to live up to expectations as a leader and the team’s frontline batsman as well.

Instead of cursing the 29-year-old, Afridi said people should support him as he is going through a tough time right now.

“I request fans on social media not to use any inappropriate language against Babar Azam. He needs everyone’s support. It’s a difficult job because the expectations were very high,” he was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Azam recently led Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup and scored 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.

The men in green lost to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to defeat Canada and Ireland.

Despite claiming those two wins, it was not enough to see them through to the Super Eights.
