Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad believes it was the “biggest mistake to reappoint Babar Azam as captain”.
Azam stepped down from the leadership role in all three formats in November 2023, but he returned as the country’s limited overs skipper in March 2024.
The 29-year-old recently led the men in green in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they failed to make it past the group stage.
Shehzad noted Azam has consistently said the team will learn from their mistakes, but he admitted that he is growing sick and tired of the Lahore native’s empty promises.
“It was the biggest mistake to reappoint Babar Azam as captain. After losing the match, they’re just left saying that we’ll be learning from our mistakes; when is that going to happen?” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India in the T20 World Cup before triumphing over Canada and Ireland.
It should be noted that Azam was Pakistan’s highest run-scorer with 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
