Legendary Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram said limited overs head coach Gary Kirsten “should be given two years” to turn the national team around.

Wasim firmly believes Kirsten “is the right person to take Pakistan cricket forward”, even though the men in green failed to live up to expectations in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Having secured the services of a highly successful coach, the Sultan of Swing urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) not to “remove him after a few series if the team fails to win consistently”.

“Gary Kirsten should be given two years. He is the right person to take Pakistan cricket forward. Gary has been successful with other teams and is a cool and calm guy. Pakistan shouldn’t remove him after a few series if the team fails to win consistently,” he was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Pakistan team lost to the United States of America and India in the T20 World Cup before bouncing back to beat Canada and Ireland.

Despite winning those two games, the men in green were eliminated in the group stage of the tournament.
