Former Multan Sultans head coach Andy Flower said spinner Shadab Khan is “out of the running” to be Pakistan captain.
Shadab was once the vice-captain in limited overs cricket, but has since been removed from the position.
Flower noted that the 25-year-old from Mianwali cannot be considered a candidate for the captaincy since he is “not doing his primary job well”, which is to take wickets.
Shadab has not dismissed any batsmen since Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand in April 2024.
In the 2024 T20 World Cup, he went wicketless in four games and didn’t even bowl in the matches against India and Canada.
“As far as the leadership is concerned, Shadab Khan is out of the running because he is not doing his primary job well,” Flower told ESPNcricinfo as quoted by Geo Super.
Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India in the T20 World Cup before rebounding to beat Canada and Ireland.
Even though they ended the group stage on a high, they failed to book their spot in the Super Eights.
