Former chief selector Mohammad Wasim has questioned why Pakistan didn’t stick with big-hitting batsman Mohammad Haris when he took them to the final of the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Haris shot to fame during that tournament and everyone believed he was on track to become the next big thing in Pakistan cricket.
However, the 23-year-old’s international career slowly fizzled out and he has not represented his country since September 2023.
Wasim noted that Haris wasn’t given enough time to prove himself and even though he showed plenty of promise, he ended up being sidelined and ignored by the selectors.
“It was the middle order that took Pakistan to the final of the World Cup (2022), not your openers. Mohammad Haris took you to the final. Where is that middle order now? As soon as they started to win matches for Pakistan, as soon as they started to establish themselves, they were sidelined. You didn’t let the middle order establish,” he was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
The Pakistan team were recently in action in the 2024 T20 World Cup and began with successive losses to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to beat Canada and Ireland.
Despite winning those two games, they failed to advance to the Super Eights.
