Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad said white-ball captain Babar Azam is getting more income from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), but is wasting it on “social media for image branding”.
Instead, Shehzad wants Azam to focus on improving his overall game, which is why the PCB is paying him more as they expect results from the 29-year-old.
The men in green have fallen well short of expectations as of late, especially in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the group stage.
Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India before claiming consolation wins over Canada and Ireland.
“Your salaries were increased by PCB to evolve your game, but you put their money on social media for image building and nothing else,” Shehzad was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam was Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup with 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
