Veteran Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad has blamed limited overs captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan for destroying the national team.
He noted that both players are more concerned with their own personal records than winning matches for the country.
His comments come after Pakistan endured a disastrous campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they lost to the United States of America and India before rebounding to beat Canada and Ireland.
Despite picking up two wins, the men in green were eliminated in the group stage of the competition.
“Rizwan and Babar were so busy making their own (personal) records that they destroyed the team,” Shehzad was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam was Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup with 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
Rizwan, meanwhile, was the second-highest run-scorer with 110 runs in four games, which included a top score of 53 not out, at an average of 36.66 and a strike-rate of 90.90.
