Legendary Pakistan batsman Younis Khan believes power-hitter Iftikhar Ahmed can’t do much when batting at number seven or eight.

He pointed out that the 33-year-old “can do nothing” if he is only facing two or three balls as he doesn’t have enough time to get settled at the crease.

Younis’ comments come after questions have been raised about whether Iftikhar deserves to be in the team following his subpar performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

The Peshawar native mustered 23 runs in two games at an average of 11.50 and a strike-rate of 100.

“What can Iftikhar Ahmed do at number seven or eight? He can do nothing in two or three balls!” Younis was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India in the T20 World Cup before bouncing back to beat Canada and Ireland.

Even though they ended the group stage with a 2-2 record, the men in green failed to make it through to the Super Eights.
