Pakistan left-arm pace bowler Mohammad Amir said limited overs captain Babar Azam is a humble and hardworking person who “loves his batting”.
He noted that Azam never shies away from putting in the hard yards as he is often still practicing in the nets even when everyone has finished training.
It is this sort of mentality that transformed the 29-year-old into one of the best batsmen in all three formats of the game.
Additionally, it is also the reason why he has been Pakistan’s most consistent run-scorer over the past few years.
“Babar Azam is a very humble guy and always thinks hard about his batting. He loves his batting, even in the nets he’s still there batting when we finish,” Amir was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
Azam recently led Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup and amassed 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
As for Amir, he took seven wickets in four games at an average of 10.28 and an economy rate of 4.50.
The men in green started the tournament with consecutive losses to the United States of America and India before rebounding to beat Canada and Ireland.
Despite winning those two matches, Pakistan were still eliminated in the group stage of the competition.

No doubt that Babar Azam is classic great batsman. As far as captain’s position is concerned, I don’t see any current Pakistan team player who could be more capable than Babar Azam though Babar is not a genuine cricket captain. In order to be a great captain one has to be like Imran Khan, Vivian Richard, Wasim Akram, Rikki Ponting or Jaced Miandad.
