Former India batsman Robin Uthappa believes Pakistan superstar Babar Azam “is a very ordinary captain” and is tactically “very poor”.
Azam is currently in his second stint as captain after being reappointed to lead the ODI and T20I teams in March 2024.
However, the 29-year-old is under immense pressure at the moment as questions have been raised about his leadership skills following the men in green’s dismal performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Pakistan began with consecutive losses to the United States of America and India before fighting back to defeat Canada and Ireland.
Even though they won those two games, they failed to advance to the Super Eights.
“I am telling you honestly, Babar is a very ordinary captain. Tactically, he is very poor. I think Pakistan is mesmerised by the batter Babar is and they are discounting his captaincy because of that. I think there are better [option],” Uthappa said on India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube channel as quoted by PakPassion.
