Could very well match Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers on Pakistan batsman scoring runs at a rapid pace

AB de Villiers said Pakistan captain Babar Azam could very well match Virat Kohli

AB de Villiers: “We’ll keep a close eye on his stats over the next few years and if he keeps going at this pace, I think he’s got a case here of maybe having a look at Virat’s stats, which is the best ODI stats I’ve ever seen”

AB de Villiers, the South Africa great, believes that Pakistan captain Babar Azam could match India batting superstar Virat Kohli’s incredible statistics “if he keeps going at this pace.”

Azam has dominated world cricket for the past few years and scored runs in all three formats.

His consistency has earned him much adulation and recognition, along with a plethora of ICC awards.

De Villiers noted that it will be interesting to see how the 29-year-old fares over the next few years, but firmly feels there is a real possibility the Pakistan skipper could be as good as Kohli.

“We’ll keep a close eye on his stats over the next few years and if he keeps going at this pace, I think he’s got a case here of maybe having a look at Virat’s stats, which is the best ODI stats I’ve ever seen,” he said in a video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Azam recently captained Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup and amassed 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.

The men in green lost their first two games against the United States of America and India before bouncing back to defeat Canada and Ireland.

Even though they ended the group stage with a 2-2 record, it wasn’t enough to earn them a spot in the Super Eights.
