Pakistan left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi is proud of the effort opening batsman Saim Ayub puts in, noting that “he always gives his best.”

Afridi pointed out that this doesn’t just apply to international matches, but during net sessions as well.

Ayub is one of the hottest prospects in Pakistan cricket and has been a force to be reckoned with in domestic cricket.

However, the 22-year-old hasn’t been able to replicate that success as the international level, where he has amassed 309 runs in 23 T20Is at an average of 14.71 and a strike-rate of 122.13.

Despite this, Afridi is confident in the skills Ayub possesses and is optimistic that he will be scoring big runs soon.

“He always gives his best, even in the nets,” Afridi was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Ayub recently featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup and finished with 23 runs in two games at an average of 11.50 and a strike-rate of 79.31.

Pakistan lost their first two matches against the United States of America and India before rebounding to beat Canada and Ireland.

Despite triumphing in those games, it was not enough to earn them a spot in the Super Eights.
