Pakistan white-ball captain Babar Azam has made it clear that he has to keep supporting wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan.
Azam has not been able to have much of an impact at the international level despite being given numerous chances to prove his worth.
In the 14 T20Is he has played, the 25-year-old has amassed 88 runs at an average of 8.80 and a strike-rate of 133.33.
He also fell well short of expectations in the 2024 T20 World Cup as he was trapped lbw for a golden duck in the only game he played, which came against the United States of America.
Even though Azam has consistently failed to produce any innings of worth, Babar will continue backing him as he knows the power-hitter has to “take risks” when batting.
“We have to support Azam because we know what type of player he is. You do take risks when you bat with intent,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India in the T20 World Cup before rebounding to pick up wins over Canada and Ireland.
Despite this, they failed to advance to the Super Eights and saw their campaign come to an end in the group stage of the tournament.
