Pakistan limited overs captain Babar Azam said he doesn’t “come from a rich family” and opened up about his journey to becoming one of the biggest superstars in world cricket.
The 29-year-old has been Pakistan’s most consistent run-scorer in all three formats for the last few years and has broken numerous records as well.
Speaking to legendary South Africa batsman AB de Villiers on his YouTube channel, Azam paid tribute to his parents for making a lot of sacrifices and supporting him every step of the way.
The Lahore-born batsman also admitted that transitioning from street cricket to hard ball cricket “was very difficult” for him.
“I don’t come from a rich family, and we didn’t have money all the time. But my parents supported me a lot. I used to play street cricket growing up, and playing cricket with a hard ball was very difficult,” Azam was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Azam recently captained Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup and made 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
The men in green started with back-to-back losses to the United States of America and India before picking up wins over Canada and Ireland.
Despite ending the group stage on a high, it was not enough to earn them a spot in the Super Eights.
