Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad has taken a shot at Babar Azam, saying the white-ball captain knew his side wasn’t prepared for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

The men in green lost their first two games against the United States of America and India before rebounding to triumph over Canada and Ireland.

Despite ending the group stage with a 2-2 record, Pakistan failed to make it through to the Super Eights.

In the four games he played, Azam scored 122 runs at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.

“When Babar Azam was asked in the press conference whether his team is prepared for the forthcoming T20 World Cup, he did not answer this question [and] instead said that this team is made after going through a long selection process because he is aware that his team is not prepared,” Shehzad said on the Geo News programme Report Card.

Pakistan Squad for 2024 T20 World Cup: Babar Azam (capt), Saim Ayub, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Fakhar Zaman, Azam Khan (wk), Usman Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir, Abbas Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed
