Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif believes Mohammad Rizwan should be the country’s number one wicketkeeper-batsman.

Calling the 32-year-old a “warrior”, Latif said Rizwan has done incredibly well behind the stumps and with the bat as well – to the point where he is one of the most dependable run-scorers in all three formats.

In the 2024 T20 World Cup, he amassed 110 runs in four matches, which included a top score of 53 not out, at an average of 36.66 and a strike-rate of 90.90.

Even though Rizwan has shared the wicketkeeping duties with Azam Khan as of late, Latif reiterated that the Peshawar native should always be Pakistan’s first-choice wicketkeeper.

“Pakistan’s No.1 keeper should be Mohammad Rizwan. Rizwan is Pakistan’s best keeper and has been a warrior for this team. He has played in the last two T20 World Cups and was exceptional,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan lost their first two T20 World Cup matches against the United States of America and India before bouncing back with wins over Canada and Ireland.

Despite ending the group stage on a high, it was not enough to secure them a place in the Super Eights.

Pakistan Squad for 2024 T20 World Cup: Babar Azam (capt), Saim Ayub, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Fakhar Zaman, Azam Khan (wk), Usman Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir, Abbas Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed

  1. True. But if PCB is planning to bring in Sarfraz as captain then we would be compromising as Sarfraz no good bater. In. Rizwan we’ve two in one with both of good quality.
