Pakistan limited overs captain Babar Azam has admitted that big-hitting batsman Mohammad Haris wasn’t good enough in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Playing for the Peshawar Zalmi, who were captained by Azam, Haris amassed 142 runs in 10 matches at an average of 15.77 and a strike-rate of 132.71.

Azam conceded that the 23-year-old should have gotten more chances to play for Pakistan after the 2022 T20 World Cup, but had an opportunity to earn a comeback in PSL 9.

However, since he could not live up to expectations, the youngster ultimately wasn’t considered for selection for the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, three-match T20I series against Ireland, four-match T20I series against England, and the 2024 T20 World Cup.

“I do agree Mohammad Haris didn’t get [a] proper opportunity the way he should have after the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, he did get [an] opportunity in PSL but he didn’t perform as per expectations,” Azam was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

In the T20 World Cup, Azam accumulated 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.

The men in green lost their first two matches against the United States of America and India before bouncing back to defeat Canada and Ireland.

Despite winning their last two games, they could not make it through to the Super Eights.
