Usama Mir has admitted that Pakistan needs leg-spinner Shadab Khan back in form during the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup.

The first-choice spinner is a key bowler for Pakistan but has been through a rough patch with the ball as he hasn’t been able to take wickets regularly and has been conceding far too many runs.

In Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand, Shadab took three wickets at an average of 18 and an economy rate of 6.75.

He then played one T20I against Ireland, but went wicketless and gave away 54 runs off his four overs.

Most recently, the 25-year-old featured in two T20Is against England and failed to take any wickets, while also leaking 75 runs in the seven overs he bowled.

Knowing that the men in green need Shadab firing on all cylinders in the T20 World Cup, Mir hopes to see him rediscover his form.

“I think him regaining his rhythm is very important for us,” he was quoted as saying by A Sports.

Pakistan lost their first T20 World Cup game against the United States of America and Shadab was once again ineffective as he didn’t take a wicket and leaked 27 runs off his three overs.

Next up for the men in green will be their highly-anticipated clash against India on June 9 in New York.

Pakistan Squad for 2024 T20 World Cup: Babar Azam (capt), Saim Ayub, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Fakhar Zaman, Azam Khan (wk), Usman Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir, Abbas Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed
