Pakistan white-ball captain Babar Azam has confirmed that pace-bowling all-rounder Aamer Jamal is not in the T20I team since he doesn’t have enough experience.

Azam called the 27-year-old “a fine all-rounder”, but conceded that he needs to play more matches in order to hone his T20I skills.

Jamal has represented Pakistan in six T20Is to date and taken two wickets at an average of 93.50 and an economy rate of 11.10.

“Aamer Jamal performed in Test cricket and Test performance cannot be compared with T20s. He is a fine all-rounder. He need some more time and more matches under his belt which will get him further polished for T20 cricket,” Azam was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Azam recently captained Pakistan in their five-match T20I series against New Zealand and made 125 runs, which included a top score of 69, at an average of 31.25 and a strike-rate of 138.88.

He then scored 132 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 44 and a strike-rate of 148.31 in the three-match T20I series against Ireland.

As for the four-match T20I series against England, Azam made 68 runs in two games at an average of 34 and a strike-rate of 141.66.

Pakistan will now be involved in the 2024 T20 World Cup, which began on June 1 and will take place in the West Indies and United States of America.

Pakistan’s first T20 World Cup game will be against the United States of America in Dallas on June 6.
