Pakistan selector Wahab Riaz has confirmed Hasan Ali will be a back-up for fellow fast bowler Haris Rauf, who is nearing his return from injury.
Rauf dislocated his shoulder while playing for the Lahore Qalandars in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and subsequently missed Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand and three-match T20I series against Ireland.
Hasan didn’t feature in the series against the Black Caps, but did play one T20I against Ireland, where he went wicketless.
“He is a back-up of Haris Rauf and we have told that to Hasan Ali. If Haris gets fit before [the] England series, [then] he will be our first choice. If we feel Haris Rauf is not match fit then Hasan Ali will replace him,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Pakistan are now playing a four-match T20I series against England, which is tied at 0-0 after the first match was abandoned due to rain.
Following this, the men in green will feature in the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will take place in the West Indies and United States of America from June 1 to 29.
Pakistan’s first T20 World Cup game will be against the United States of America in Dallas on June 6.
