Pakistan limited overs captain Babar Azam has confirmed that his side have plans for India batsman Virat Kohli ahead of their highly-anticipated clash in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Kohli memorably guided India to victory over Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup and Azam will no doubt be looking to avoid a repeat of that when the two sides meet again on June 9 in New York.
Acknowledging that the 35-year-old is “one of the best players”, Azam reiterated that the men in green will have tactics in place to try and get the Indian superstar out as early as possible. However, he didn’t provide specific details about Pakistan’s plans.
“He (Virat Kohli) is one of the best players and we will plan against him as well,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam recently led Pakistan in their five-match T20I series against New Zealand and struck 125 runs, which included a top score of 69, at an average of 31.25 and a strike-rate of 138.88.
He then proceeded to amass 132 runs in three T20Is against Ireland, which included two fifties, at an average of 44 and a strike-rate of 148.31.
Pakistan are now involved in a four-match T20I series against England, which is tied at 0-0 after the first game was washed out.
Afterwards, the men in green will feature in the T20 World Cup, which will be played in the West Indies and United States of America from June 1 to 29.
Pakistan’s first T20 World Cup game will be against the United States of America in Dallas on June 6.
