Pakistan seamer Haris Rauf has insisted that he is not jealous of left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir, even though he will be competing with him for a spot in the T20I team.
Amir reversed his decision to retire from international cricket after the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and returned during the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, where he took three wickets in four games at an average of 28.66 and an economy rate of 8.32.
He followed that up with two wickets in two T20Is against Ireland at an average of 38 and an economy rate of 9.50.
Rauf missed both series since he is recovering from the dislocated shoulder he suffered while playing for the Lahore Qalandars in PSL 9.
Despite knowing that he and Amir will be fighting for a spot in the team, the 30-year-old admitted he has learned a lot from the veteran pace bowler.
“Amir bhai is our senior bowler. I get to learn a lot from him. The team benefits when there is competition for spots between bowlers. There is no jealousy. You try to perform better than one another so that the team benefits,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Pakistan’s next assignment will see them play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
Afterwards, they will feature in the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be played in the West Indies and United States of America from June 1 to 29.
Pakistan’s first T20 World Cup game will be against the United States of America in Dallas on June 6.
