Pakistan fast bowler Abbas Afridi expressed his gratitude to his uncle Umar Gul for helping him improve his game as of late.
Gul, a pace bowler himself, had a fabulous career for Pakistan and recently served as the national team’s fast bowling coach.
Knowing what his uncle managed to accomplish, Afridi is no doubt eager to do the same and has gotten off to a brilliant start, especially in T20Is.
So far, the 23-year-old has taken 16 wickets in nine T20Is at an average of 16.50 and an economy rate of 9.15.
“Umar Gul has worked really hard with me recently,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand in April 2024, Afridi claimed five wickets in three games at an average of 14.20 and an economy rate of 8.87.
He then snapped up six wickets in three T20Is against Ireland at an average of 18.66 and an economy rate of 9.46.
Next up for Pakistan will be four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
After this, they will take part in the T20 World Cup, which will take place in the West Indies and United States of America from June 1 to 29.
Pakistan’s first T20 World Cup game will be against the United States of America in Dallas on June 6.
