Mohammad Amir is confident that fellow Pakistan left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi will regain his confidence as he is “getting back to his rhythm.”

Afridi was at the centre of attention for all the wrong reasons lately as questions were raised about his lack of wickets and decrease in bowling speed.

This was evident during the three-match Test series against Australia as he finished with eight wickets in two games at an average of 41.62.

The 23-year-old then made his debut as T20I captain in Pakistan’s five-match series against New Zealand and fared a lot better as he claimed nine wickets at an average of 19.22 and an economy rate of 8.94.

“It [seems] he’s getting back to his rhythm. The more cricket he plays, the faster he will get back his confidence,” Amir was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Afridi lost the captaincy after the series against New Zealand, with Babar Azam taking over as limited overs captain when the men in green hosted the Black Caps for a five-match T20I series in April 2024.

In that series, Afridi picked up eight wickets in four games at an average of 10 and an economy rate of 7.38.

He is now involved in the team’s three-match T20I series against Ireland and has claimed four wickets in two matches at an average of 18.75 and an economy rate of 9.37.

After this, Pakistan will play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
