Irfan Khan, a new face in Pakistan’s T20I team, said he has been “working hard on my power-hitting” since “this is what modern-day cricket is now all about.”
Irfan earned a call-up to the national team following his strong showing in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he amassed 171 runs in nine matches for the Karachi Kings at an average of 42.75 and a strike-rate of 140.16.
Since then, he has gone on to represent Pakistan in three T20Is, all of which came in the five-match series against New Zealand in April 2024, and scored 48 runs in total.
Given how much the landscape of T20 cricket has changed, the 21-year-old from Mianwali is putting in the hard yards to ensure he can score quick runs for his team.
“T20 cricket these days demands runs to be scored [in] an aggressive manner. I have been working hard on my power-hitting because this is what modern-day cricket is now all about,” Irfan was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Irfan is now part of Pakistan’s squad for the ongoing three-match T20I series against Ireland, which is tied at 1-1 going into the third game on May 14.
After this series, Pakistan will play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
